Hailing from Jam, Michigan, Phi is a rock band that is able to create a unique balance between melodic flowing rhythms and phrases that are straight to the point. Each song brings a different sound, a different mood, yet is identifiable to the whole. It also becomes obvious that when listening to a song you are part of the journey. By straying from the typical 4/4, four chord progressions Phi offers an experience that is different with each listen.

Since forming in early 2006, Phi has been successful in creating a positive reputation in the music scene. Currently the band can be found playing popular venues in Midland, Saginaw, Bay City, and Flint, Michigan. Recently the band has been nominated for several categories in this year’s Review Magazine Awards including “Rock Band of the Year�. Singer Pat Brennan has also received awards in the past for “Best Male Rock Vocalist�.

As with any other band, there have been plenty of musical influences along the way. Some members of the band have been self-taught, while others have family and friends to thank. Other musical influences include Tool, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Incubus, Creed, Metallica, Deftones, Maynard James Keenan, Dio, The Doors, and Alice in Chains.

Having recorded their first demo CD, Phi gives their audience a taste of what they are capable of. From the first song “Life to Miss�, a song about opening your true self up and living life without fear, to “Lost�, a straight up rock song about finding your way, to “Tao�, a song that reminds us to be involved in the present and not fret about the past that we cannot change or the future that we cannot predict.

To sum up Phi is to say they are a unique band that truly loves the music they create.

The Altered Skin Revolution set a new standard for success in local concert promotion. Headlined by national acts Puddle of Mudd and Kittie, the show brought 1000's into the closed off streets of Downtown Saginaw, MI. Not only did the show bring in national acts for the first time in a long time to Saginaw, it also showcased some of Michigan's top talent.

It was nice to see Kittie and Puddle of Mudd, but it was the local bands which really stole the show. Bands such as SilverSpork, The Miscreants, Neighborhood Muscle, Born, Grynkore, Big Fat Kill, Downseed, the Thunder Chickens, and of course local favorites, TensionHead showed what I've always said, "You don't have to go all the way to California to find music's top talent."

The best surprise of the day was Phi. Winners of the Battle of the Bands and new comers to the show they wowed the crowed with their deep lyrics and melodic sound. After the show they did a meet and greet at TheRevoltionMusic.com's tent and had people lined up deep. I know they were taken back by the response they got, but it was well deserved. Not too damn bad for a band that has yet to release their first studio CD and stayed up late burning demo cd's the night before the show (nice job Eric).
